Mom's Punch Bowls

I am so glad I was raised by a mom who enjoys people. She loves gatherings of all kinds. She is known to organize groups of women into home ec clubs, quilt clubs, etc. For my mom, it's all about the party! Isn't it fitting then that she has a passion for punch bowls? I think this is a fun trait of hers. When I was home, I snapped these photos. We believe she owns 75 different punch bowls, mostly vintage, and some even valuable.

A couple of traditions have developed from these punch bowls. This post would not be complete if I left out these tidbits, so please stay glued to your screen. LOL! One is that we throw little pieces of papers with our names on them, into the punch bowl, to claim them as our inheritance. I don't know if we have actually DONE that, but we joke about doing it. The other is that my Dad jokes that he "hopes there is never an earthquake".

Last year, I made some fabulous Christmas punch on Christmas Eve, and was shocked that I did not have a punch bowl to use! I remedied that last week with a milk glass punch bowl from the antique mall. The price was right and the sentiment felt great. Can't wait until Christmas Eve to be like my mom!

Rest assured, I will never own 75 punch bowls. But you KNOW that each time I see one, I think of a farm house in Indiana where a lady is cooking, surrounded by her treasures. Happy weekend, my dear friends!

Wow, those are amazing to see. I don't know if I have ever even seen an antique punchbowl. What a beautiful collection and she has the perfect spot to display the, doesn't she?

I've heard rumors about these punch bowls back when you lived in Ladoga. I think your mom should be featured in a magazine with her collection....weren't you trying to do that at one time?

I did send emails to Country Living and Country Home, if I remember correctly. Maybe if I had my sis take some real professional photos and send them in, that would work. On a sunny day, they are stunning and unique. :)
