Mr. Active in the ER

So my eldest came home from a birthday party. Some friends brought him here, and we visited a bit, played with the kittens, laughed and hugged good-bye. THEN my son said, "Mom, I have an injury!". He pulled up his pant leg and for the first time in my parenting career of 13 years, I thought I might pass out or do something else that I won't mention.

He had a gash in his leg that was about 5 inches long, and about 1 inch across, and so very deep. It was bleeding, but mostly, it was just a deep.open.wound.

He has been playing basketball at the party. Apparently there was a screw that stuck out on the post which holds the basket. It did not rip his pants, just his skin.

We received excellent care in the ER. 23 stitches later, we were sent on our merry way.

The worst part for him? He can not have any activity for two weeks. I'm telling you, it is a bad gash. He has to skip his basketball camp, a by-invitation-only camp with his teammates and his coach.

I hate it for him. As I told him, sometimes life just plain hurts. But joy comes in the morning, and his morning will come. I just know it.

HOLY MOLY, Kate!!! That is a LOT of stitches. Kid must have an incredible pain tolerance. My stomach did a flip flop and then some for you!

Thank you, sweet Julie. Are you sure it was not flipping anyway? ;) And girl, you should see the ER on a Saturday night in the city! Oh, the stories I could write that I won't. Hope to see you soon. Hugs.

I don't think he knew it was so bad. He said it never did hurt! I am here for you, but hopefully, it won't happen to yours!!!
