4th of July

I don't ever want to take for granted the wonderful life I/we have in this country. It has taken hundreds of years and many selfless people to give me the freedoms I have. I bet you feel the same way, thankful and humbled by it.

My dad enlisted in the U.S. Army when he was just 17. As the mother of a 15-year-old, this makes that old lump come back into my throat. I am thankful for his service and proud he was so mature.

One of my sons has his eye on the military prize. It is a fine balance, guiding him to focus on education, but seeing clearly that his passion lies elsewhere.

May quiet time this holiday weekend allow you (and me) to reflect on those who have given us this great country, and how we, as citizens, mothers, friends, can fight to keep it great.

We are not a hopeless nation. We are not a doomed nation as some would lead us to believe. We are strong people who, if focused, can keep our country great. God Bless America, land that I love.

We celebrate the 4th as America's birthday... cake and all. Evan is always surprised how old America is and asks lots of history questions. I am however always reminded how young our nation really is. We are still experiencing growing pains I think : )
