There are certain possessions that bring me great joy because of the memories they evoke. This is one of them. I bought this chippy planter in the Ohio River Valley where we used to live. I doubt it is particularly valuable. It's not in perfect condition. BUT, it sits in my sunroom reminding me of our lovely acreage there, the house I adored, the peaceful pond I could see from our back porch.
It reminds me of ol' Mr. Croskey who used to stop by to check on us. It tells me of the friendliness of that community; of the tiny, poor schools and the dedicated parents who tried to eak out an education for the precious children.
It speaks to me of the River, the rusted closed steel mills, the tough Pittsburgh accent, the many brick structures.
It reminds me of that dark-headed baby who sat in the stroller and never really learned to love antiquing as her brothers did when they were babies.
It darn near speaks a bookful of memories. LOVE LOVE LOVE this chippy planter. Had no idea it would feel so good to have it in my home.
What brings you great joy today?
