The Day She Outwitted Me

The five-year-old outwitted the Psych major. It is not pretty.

She has been telling me how she HATES kindergarten. Too boring, too easy, mean teacher, boring teacher, mean friends, boring recesses, bad pizza, headaches ALL day, can't sleep, noisy kids. She would end with, "Won't you please, please homeschool me?".

I started to be worried about her endless headaches. Maybe she needs an MRI, I thought to myself. Worried she was bored or being mistreated or whatever the complaint du jour was.

Tonight at Parent-Teacher conference, here is the report I received: She is very bright. In the top reading group. Seems thrilled to be here. Fun to be around. Loves all the kids and all the kids love her. No problems behaviorally, just likes to have fun. No apparent headaches, never complains. Compliant. Great to have in class. Lots of energy, sometimes messes with her neighbor. No big deal.

The teacher ends with, "Mama, I think you are being manipulated. Your daughter appears to LOVE school". We had a good laugh. I told her what job I used to have. More laughing from our hearts. It is good to know I can relax and redirect the little manipulator when she complains about EVERYTHING school related. Little squirt.

I took this picture of her this morning. She is growing up and getting way too smart!

I am thrilled to hear that she seems to love school. And I think manipulation is a sign of brilliance... sounds weird maybe... but it takes a very intelligent and aware child to pull it off. I wish you lots of luck, my friend! ; )

Well, I hadn't thought of that D. I guess it does take intelligence. I get more and more frightened with each passing year. ROTFL!!!!! Thanks for pointing out something positive.
