Wishes

One of my favorite activities, as a mother, is to read the essays my boys write for school. I can't help but *kind of* analyze their words.

One of my sons had to write about his wishes for the year. I don't know the exact wording of the assignment, but it was probably something like, "Write about your top three wishes for the upcoming year".

So he begins with..."I don't believe in wishes". WHAT? How can one of my children not believe in WISHES? Did I give birth to this person? I have always told them to dream big, to work hard...to set goals..on and on.

He wrote a whole page about not believing in wishes, because they are make believe, but instead, just do what you enjoy every day. Find activities you love, like soccer or tennis, and try to do them every day.

It turned out to be a very sweet essay. I learn from this that he is very practical minded, black and white so to speak...and realistic. I would say he is more like Clay than me. I continue to learn about my children every day. I find great joy in discovering who they are.
