The Weekend and Helen Keller

Annabelle is attending a birthday party tonight. Solomon is going to a sleepover. Max and Elliot will be going to bed at a decent time to prepare for their soccer tournament tomorrow.

Which brings me to my goal for the weekend. Have you heard that song that is all the rage with the kids? Here's how I found out about it.

Child: Mom, is Helen Keller a real person?
Mom: Yes, dear, why?
Child: Everyone's singing about her. (then he turns up the radio)

Here is part of the lyrics.

"Shush girl shut your lips,
Do the Hellen Keller and talk with your hips."

I know, it is awful, but it does have a catchy beat and of course, my kids have no idea what is implied.

This weekend we as a family will be watching "The Miracle Worker" or some facsimile of it, whatever I can find at the video store. I thought everyone knew Helen Keller. I am wondering what else I haven't thought to teach them. It is a bit overwhelming....but I'll take it one step at a time. :) Happy weekend to you and yours!
