Fearful Friday

--pic of funnel cloud from internet

I took the boys to football camp early Friday morning. My two little ones and I shopped for books and had a leisurely lunch. They were sleepy and both fell into a deep sleep on the one hour drive home.

As I was coming into our city, I could see in the distance what I fear most here, and that is a sky full of ominous black clouds. I was very scared when I realized I would not make it home before this massive storm hit.

As the storm approached, I could see a black cloud hanging down. Later as I researched it I learned that it was funnel cloud. Hail started to fall...thank goodness it was only pea-sized. Some areas received SOFTBALL-sized hail. I could not see to drive, so I pulled up by a huge Best Buy store and parked so the wall protected us from the winds and rain.

I heard that the wind gusts reached 50-80 mph. I know there have been many storms here that were much stronger than this one. I can't imagine. The black sky has resulted in a lot of damage around here....I don't want to underestimate its power. I've never seen anything like the power of these storms, and I won't miss them if we ever move!
