Our eldest son asked for one thing for Christmas, and that was to "remodel" the ol' chicken coop that sits on this property. He and his two little brothers have been busy cleaning it, organizing its contents, etc. Rain has slowed their progress, but we think next week should bring warm, sunny weather.
You don't think this budding ornithologist would simply put CHICKENS in there, do you? No. Clay ordered a set, a brood, a flock....I don't know what to call them. Clay ordered a bunch of golden pheasant eggs. Max has the incubator in his room, ready for their arrival. The shipment is to arrive in late April.
I have to admit I am very excited about these golden pheasants. They are native to Asia and are strikingly beautiful. Oh, I hope those eggs hatch some very healthy babies.
This is what dreams are made of: anticipation, hard work, then the fruits of labor. Life doesn't get much better than that, in this mama's opinion.
And to give credit where credit is due, Max mentions that his first grade teacher, Mrs. Long, thrilled him by having an incubator in her classroom. He'll never forget the anticipation as they waited for those chickens to hatch. Thank you, Mrs. Long. You inspired that little boy all those years ago!
