The Rim

For at least two years, Annabelle has been working to whistle. She is very determined and accomplishes every thing she tries, except whistling. When we went to South Dakota a couple of summers ago, the kids were introduced to fishing by their grandfather. The boys threw rocks and talked and dilly-dallied as they relaxed around the pond. Annabelle stood quietly and focused, and pulled in a huge fish, much to her brothers' dismay. But I digress. So she excitedly came to me last night, saying, "Mommy! Mommy! I whistled. I did it! I did it!" In the background came a deep teen voice, "But you can't touch the rim." And so the world keeps turning in the life of a little sister of three brothers. Their words keep her working and motivated. I imagine that if it is physically possible, someday she will touch that rim.
