Local Fire

--local news photo

This is our community from about 5 miles away. Three hundred acres burned last night after some children started the fire accidentally, while playing with bottle rockets. POOR KIDS! There were evacuations, fire/rescue squads from many surrounding towns and states, and one house burned to the ground. The smoke in the sky stretched for miles and ash rained down upon onlookers.

I can't remember our last rain. It has been months. All the grass is looking like a dry, harvested wheat field. With temperatures over 100 day after day after day, it really is very dangerous. We have had burn bans for a long time, but children don't understand. Praying those kids have learned their lesson and don't carry too much guilt.

Just one firefighter was sent to the hospital. Not sure if it was smoke inhalation or heat exhaustion. The fire has rekindled itself today. It is about ten miles from us, but it smells very smokey outside. Enjoy your rain, if you are getting some. :)
