Maxwell

As I was out and about this week, two different mamas stopped me to compliment my Maxwell, and I wanted to share a bit about that.

Max is in 8th grade.

One mother told me that she was driving down the road with a carload of freshman girls. All of them were having boy trouble. All of them wanted to speak to Max. Max helps them solve their problems. Max listens with love and compassion, and is the BEST friend to these girls. I know my mouth must have dropped open a bit. I really had no idea.

At cotillion, these girls surrounded him, arm in arm. They looked back at me and said with sign language, "We love Max." It was so sweet and sincere.

Yesterday, a mother stopped me and said Max had been very encouraging to her daughter. He had sent a loving, thoughtful text to a group of friends, and it moved this mother to tears. So we both cried. Together. And she said she feels God has great things in store for this boy, who has such a heart for God.

Max will be gone all weekend to Disciple Now, an exciting local event for teens. He will stay with 11 other boys in a sponsor home, then go to the church for meals, classes, concerts. I hear it is a wonderful event. I pray he grows this weekend, gets some sleep, doesn't forget his migraine meds, thinks of his family once in a while, lol! OK, we can leave off the family part. I pray he has a wonderful time!! I thank God for him every day.

It is such a blessing to see my babies grow into these new phases.

Kate, clearly Max inherited your abilities for listening. That is amazing to see in a young man though. He is a gift, as you know. He is destined for great things. YOU are a gift though, too - I hope you know that. Everyone should be so lucky to have a friend that can sit and LISTEN so intently and compassionatly. When I find myself in some situations, I try to channel your listening abilities and think, "What would Kate do in this situation?" Really. What great kids you and Clay have raised!!!

Awww, that must just melt a mama's heart. You should be so proud. How nice to know that so many adults and peers think so highly of him. Just goes to show what great parents can produce. : )

And I am with you, Julie. I often say to myself 'what would Kate do?' : )
