Pie Safe Update

In your spare time, you may be thinking, "I wonder how that pie safe is coming along?". haha. So I will give you an update.

Remember what it looked like when I first started stripping it? I did a little research and read that some people don't use chemical stripper at all. They simply sand away the old paint/varnish. So I began sanding and sanding until....

...it started to look like this. Lots of pretty wood, looks like oak maybe. It was starting to look good, just needed a little more sanding, then, I smelled something burning, and...

... my sander feel to pieces. That's right. I am sure this doesn't happen often. I have to say, in its defense, it WAS 110 degrees, and it WAS getting an intense workout day after day.

Someday soon I will have a new sander and I will continue on this journey. I am going to wait for cooler weather though. For the sander's sake, of course.

That is too funny....I am in the middle of a similar project, mine is a dresser.
I swear they both have the exact same layers of paint on them, colors and all. I have been using the chemical stripper and my sander....it has been so hot that I haven't touched it in weeks....Yours looks much better than mine. Love the safe too...can't wait for cool weather so I can sand on....good luck with yours....looking good... :) Can't wait for the end result...Amee

I'm telling you, we are sisters separated at birth!! :) You have to show me your project at Thanksgiving. I will understand if it is not completed, umm, considering you have THREE under the age of FIVE!!! You go girl!

I am impressed, that looked like paint that didn't want to come off!!

Somethings have to be sacrified for beauty and I would say the death of the sander was worth the beauty you found in the pie safe!!

I'm with Julie. If you don't go through at least a couple power tools, it isn't considered a real project ; ) I (meaning my husband) have a small collection of sanders. One gets too hot it's time to move on to the next one. Sanding old paint is therapeutic! can't wait to see the final product of your (and the sander's) labor.
