Last year, I tore out all the ugly shrubs (vintage 1970) from the front of our home. I shopped and considered and studied, and decided the only way to go was a long row of Annabelle hydrangea. I stopped at a wonderful nursery and asked their opinion. The lady said her first choice would be hydrangea. YAY! I always buy the smallest plants I can because they are cheaper that way. What I DO have right now, I hope and pray, is TIME. Time to nurture them and watch them grow. I hoped that they would bloom sooner than later. It has been a very wet spring here, and several of the hydrangea are blooming. I have three types around the house, but the long row is Annabelle. Someday they will be 5-8 feet tall. I have mixed feelings about staying in this house THAT long, but I know that the Annabelle will bring me joy when I pull into my driveway.

Hydrangea in bloom

Making home. . . well, home. I know the feeling, Kate, of getting excited to see it grow, but hoping you aren't here at the same time. We have planted a lot of trees and I love watching them get bigger, but I would sell them out at a moment's notice!! :P But really, from my own selfish perspective, I'm glad to see you putting down roots! Ha ha!
I'm with Julie on the shelfish point !
I too planted me some hydrangeas this spring and have one that is thriving from last year...happy happy joy joy !
We shall coin the phrase ''we'll always have hydrangess'' !
Even though I thought some of the plants looked like hostas, what else would you plant instead of hydrangeas? I really wouldn't have expected anything else. :)
