Diva-Sugar becomes a Mom! or News from the Pantry

You may remember that we adopted a lovely cat from the city park last year. She is a Himalayan, or Persian, or something of that lovely variety with long gorgeous hair and blue eyes.

Max named her Sugar because she is white. I soon added Diva to her name, as she thinks she rules my roost. Diva-Sugar is an outside cat, but she begs to come inside, and the children succumb to her beauty.

All our cats have had their necessary visit to the vet so they can't reproduce, but I wanted Diva-Sugar to have a litter so the children could experience the magic. We always had mama cats on the farm, and their babies were sooo much fun for us.

Diva-Sugar was definitely heavy with children in the last few weeks, and she began exploring our house for a cool, dark floor with easy access. There were not a lot of options in this busy household.

I liked it when she crawled into the old crock in the fireplace. It seemed perfect, but she did not agree.

One night she settled in the pantry. She was so anxious that I thought the time must be near. Before the night was over, she had three live kittens.

Max was up as they were born. He enjoyed it very much, and to find something a 13-year-old enjoys is sometimes challenging. ;)

Every few hours, when the babies are all asleep, Diva goes outside. I watch her and she takes a break on the deck. Today she simply sat and watched the rain. It was precious. I remember doing that myself as a newborn slept.

In a matter of two days, I can see the little kittens have become PLUMP. Mama's milk, there's nothing like it. Here they are nestled up to her. At some point I hope to move them to the sunroom. I am trying to be patient. It is a stretch for this farm girl to have a litter of kittens in her pantry, but I have found my heart very sensitive to the needs of any mama.

LOVE the kitties and that the kids are getting to experience this. Ann in the MOMS club has been wanting a kitty for a long time if you want one to have a really good home. . . (not sure if you are planning on keeping all of them - I won't tell her about them unless you are planning on finding homes for them).
