My mind can not get past the fact that there are hundreds of thousands of Haitian orphans. I was aware there was international adoption from Haiti, but when agencies are involved, my interest dwindles. The middle men making money leads to corruption and my stomach starts to churn.
Here is a photo of some children in a Haitian orphanage getting food that was donated. (It was taken by the Dave Ramsey team...you know Dave Ramsey, the financial guru who is my new mentor. I read two of his books at Christmastime and it changed my whole way of thinking and spending/saving money.)
My mind is rambling. Here is my point. There are thousands of families in line for a China adoption that may never happen. Some have waited four years, the families in line behind them will wait much longer. The prediction is a staggering 7-10 years. WHY can't they have a chance to adopt a Haitian if they so choose? I am sure some would not want to switch countries, but many would. Hopefully, something like this plan will come together. Geez, I wish I were in a position of power to DO SOMETHING. But alas, mammas on their knees have changed the world, so that is where I shall be. Happy weekend, my beloved friends!!

Kate,
My dear friend Jennifer and her husband Andy are in the process of adopting a daughter from Haiti. They have been completing paperwork, home studies, etc. for about 2 years--they are just at the point where a child was to be matched with them any day when the earthquake struck. Andy has been travelling to Haiti using vacation time for several years now volunteering with Open Door Haiti. I don't understand why it takes sooo long to adopt a child that lives in an orphanage when there are loving, open homes just waiting for them. They will be in our local paper tomorrow, I'll send you the link if I can find it. xxo
