Freckles and cooking.

The holidays are upon us, and that makes me think of my mom's cooking.

Long story short, she did not do much cooking when she was first married. Now, 48 years later, she is what my kids like to call "an award-winning cook in Indiana" or "best cook in Putnam County". She has her fair ribbons hanging in a little storage room where there are also toys. The little ones like to admire her ribbons. It is cute how proud they are of her, and I am proud, too.

She recently spoke to a vocational school about the ease of making bread. It was open to the public, too, kind of a cooking class. My sister reports that there were several speakers, but mom was a natural and even did a question and answer session with the crowd, Oprah-style.

I love her cooking. I love how she is self-taught. I love her freckles that are reflected to me on my babies' faces. Can't wait until Thanksgiving!
ps How scrumptious do those dessert breads look????
