She came out of school today and I could see she was fighting back tears.
I scooped her up. She buried her face in my neck and sobbed. All the parents in line were staring. She is not a big crier, usually happy and bubbly.
As they were leaving the classroom, a "friend" said, "I won't be your friend any more". My little toughie had a broken heart. She is EXTREMELY sensitive.
When we decided to adopt a girl, many people warned me. "A girl's world is much different than a boy's. It can be very difficult. Girls are mean".
Yes, they are. She sobbed for about ten minutes, then I lectured and lectured. She understands she does not need mean friends, but I think her heart is still tender. We talked about how to be a good friend, and how to leave the mean ones in the dust. If it were only that easy.

I hear you sister, I can totally relate. Wishing Annabelle many kind friends.
What a wise girl Miss Annabelle is and will continue to be. A movie quote comes to mind (from Hope Floats)
(paraphrasing) 'Childhood is what we spend the rest of our lives trying to get over.'
[hugs]
