Important Decisions That Mothers Must Make.

This post could be entitled "How My Annoying Brothers Came in Handy", or "The Amazing Human Brain", or "Young Mothers Prepare for Decision-Making".

I had a daunting decision to make the other day. I was faced with piles of football jerseys, neatly stacked on the sidewalk. They were in stack by numbers...the 20s in one pile, the 30s, the 40s...the piles lined up as if ready to march in a parade.

In past years, Solomon has worn number 51, a number worn by my dad, me, all my siblings. It has been fun seeing him continue that tradition.

However, this year #51 was too small, and he has been switched from wide receiver to running back.

He was out on the field practicing. Parents were scrambling through the jerseys. Numbers are a BIG deal here, as football is a big deal.

I asked a dad who was observing, "What would be a good number for a running back?". He said he knew nothing about football! Odd to find a local who knew nothing about football. Bad luck for me.

All of a sudden, I had a revelation. I spent many years with three annoying brothers. Ok, they were not annoying, but they HOGGED the one tv we had. They watched each and every football game that was televised. This was back in the 70s.

Do you know who was BIG back in the 70s??? Probably the greatest running back of all time, Walter Payton. And in a miracle of all miracles...his number came to me....#34....(this may not seem like a big deal to you, but considering my forgetful brain, this is awesome).

I grabbed it, it was XL....the perfect size, the perfect number.

The best part is that Sol is going to research Walter Payton. Isn't the internet fabulous? He will see what an amazing person Mr. Payton was. He will see how his foundation continues to do good work today.

Annoying brothers come in handy. The brain is amazing in its ability to recall, and Moms have to make Daunting Decisions. :) Sometimes, it all comes together for success. :)

Hey Kath, great story. The mind does amaze us from time to time. Beleive it or not I checked him in at the airport one time also... I looked at his ticket and it said Payton/walter....I was like THE Walter payton, he seemed very sweet. I was sad to find out a few years later that he had passed away...Now I need to find out about all of his great causes....ps. at least one of your brothers is still annoying...lol.. I know exactly how you felt..

You CRACK me up...my annoying brother, LOL. Did you know Walter Payton's nickname was Sweetness? He was sweet just as you described him. We are thinking about calling Sol "SUGAR", you know, like a white sweetness. Thanks for sharing that you had actually been around him. I'll tell Solly.

Oh my!! Sorry 'bout that Sug. We don't want to have Big Sug and Lil Sug. Will have to think of something!!! My side is splitting.
