When a child is raised on a farm, she learns many things...so many things that books have been written about this topic.
What I learned is that no matter what bad happens today, the sun comes up tomorrow. If we have a drought or a flood or an ice storm or a fire......things will get better if we wait a few days or weeks or sometimes, months. If they don't get better, we adjust our goals and keep working hard.
I learned that a planted seed takes a lot of nurturing to produce crops. That is an important lesson in itself. I can apply that one to marriage, raising children, gardening, homekeeping, etc.
I learned that grief is part of life. On some days, it is a big part.
I learned that a man likes to have a lovely wife. I love the memory of my mom putting on lipstick before Dad would come in for lunch. There we were, on a farm miles from town, and mom wanted to look nice just for him.
Today my dad turns 70. I can say that his strength over the years was like an oak tree. He gave me roots so that I am strong, too. The lessons he taught are etched into my heart. I am thankful I have a strong dad. It is a wonderful gift for his children and grandchildren. Thanks, Dad, and Happy Birthday. (the picture is courtesy of my sister, who took this picture last year. Thanks, Kristie!)

a touching post and a wonderful glimpse into your world! I would love to read a book written by you... can you add that to your 'to do list'? ; P
that's really so special.
You said that all very well!
I didn't know about mom and
her lipstick, that makes me
smile!
Danica- I really appreciate you! Your kind words always touch me. Yes, that to do list, after the laundry I'll get to the book.
Kristie- yes, and I think the lipstick was called "pink foil". I am going to write about that soon. Stay tuned. :)
