This was written by my dear friend Selina, who thankfully moved here from North Carolina and is in our mom's club. Thanks for letting me share it, Selina.
If I knew...
If I knew it was the last time I would see those little arms stretching up wanting me to pick you up, I might have never put you down.
If I knew it was my last sweet baby kiss that left me face so wet, I might not have dried it.
If I knew it was the last time you would crawl in my lap with a book, we would have read all day.
If I knew it was the last time you would be the right size to pick up and dance with, we would still be dancing.
If I knew it was the last bath you needed my help, I would have kept you in the tub all day.
If I knew it was our last game of hide and seek, I would have ignored everything and kept playing.
If I knew it was the last time you wanted to hold my hand, I would have never let go.
If I knew it was the last time I would hear your baby talk, I would not correct it but I would sear it into my memory.
If I knew it was the last time I would wash that dirty little face, I would take a picture and cherish it.
If I knew it was the last time your voice would sound so sweet, young, and innocent on the phone, I might have never hung up.
If I knew it was the last boo boo I would kiss, I would cover you in kisses and then I would weep for the stage we were leaving.
If I only knew.....
