Impressive

I liked her as soon as I met her. Elliot's math and science teacher is perky, friendly, bright, and did not seem like the usual local, unfriendly person. We had a parent-teacher conference Thursday. As the conversation went on and on, and we spoke about life and not children, she revealed that she is a HOOSIER!!! She had no idea I was one, too. She has been here seventeen years, and says she was depressed for the first ten. "It is just different here". We agreed that it is hard to put into words what an "outsider" experiences here. As we hugged cheek-to-cheek at the end, I had tears in my eyes. There is something special about a Midwesterner, at least to me.

On a related note, I was watching CNN last night. An analyst was criticizing Gov. Palin's mannerisms, i.e. her winking and folksy ways. Georgette Mosbacher stood up and said, "Well, I'm from Indiana and that's just how we talk". That tickled me. ;)

This week has been crazy with lots of activities. Maxwell turned 12!! Clay took him and two buddies up to the University to watch a Hogs game. I think several of them will be rooting for Florida. Shhh..don't tell the locals.

ps I have to add, lest you worry, that I am not depressed. I think it is the incessant sunshine. I have wonderful friends who have also moved here. And the children...they are all doing so well. I have very few worries, for which I am thankful.
