My Mom

Yesterday was my mom's birthday. I would like to have been there to eat cake with her and to celebrate all the things she has taught me.

My mom taught me to find joy in any situation. She taught me that if I am sad when the sun goes down, that joy will surely come in the morning. She taught me to never, never, never give up on my dreams.

She showed me that money does not mean happiness. She could take a chicken and a few potatoes and turn it into the most glorious spread ever. Her desserts are to die for...that is another thing, she has shown me that if you continue learning new skills, those new skills will bring joy and laughter.

Mom showed me that if you are kind to others, especially when they don't expect it, it will come back ten-fold (or more). I have seen her be kind to people that others would not acknowledge.

She taught me to be committed to marriage even when walking away would feel better at the moment.

Mom said that God does not provide a perfect life for believers, but He does provide peace of mind and joy for a life well-lived.

Mother always made the point that all people are equal, no matter race, religion, income, etc. This attitude has served me well and brought me much happiness.

She taught me to see beauty in old things, like brooches, farms, and especially people. She showed me that a few simple rows of zinnias can be breath-taking year after year.

Most of all, mom showed me that she loves me. What better gift to give a child? I hope I can pass that along to my children and their friends.

Happy birthday Bon-Bon. I hope you have many more, and I thank you for the lessons and love.

What a wonderful tribute--does your mom read your blog? I would be thrilled if my daughters write something half that nice about me when they are grown. You're the best!
